I have a Eureka Whirlwind, and I just love it. It picks up good, but some people don’t maintain it, like replacing the filters and cleaning them when needed. I have had mine now for 7 yrs, and I bought it at Wal-Mart and I paid like $69.00 for it.. The best $69.00 I invested..
we use a Dirt Devil (also from Wal-Mart). Under a hundred, and works fine. Except the belt went on it after about a year. I don’t really know the average belt life though. Very kid friendly, the kids love dragging it around the house helping us out!
lol
I think if you pay up to $200 for a vac, you will get something you are happy with. After that, the prices jump to like $400, which is nuts.
I have a Dirt Devil (Platinum Force) bagless vacuum and I really like it. I would suggest that. The cord is very long and the attachments are nice for other than carpet.

We have been very happy with the Phillips Marathon 2000 wat. I like it cleans as if I was mowing the grass — I can see the difference as I go.
