How do I get rid of fleas in my apartment?

3

The previous tenant had two dogs and left me with the fleas. And I mean bad. When I came in to look the place over I had fleas all over my feet. Probably 30 or so in about 5 minutes. The place was empty though for a week or more so they were probably hungry.
The carpets have been commercially cleaned, flea powder laid on the carpets, flea bombs lit off while the place was still empty, and today I used a spray on product which is called…Enforcer Flea Spray with F.G.R.
I also gave my cat a flea dip and killed probably 50 on the cat and put a flea collar on him as well.
I vacuumed the floors tonite and found alot of live fleas in the bin (bagless).
Any tips would be a tremendous help.

  1. You’re doing a good job. Now consider what I just learned from my exterminator. Flea eggs can’t be killed along with the fleas. After the first treatment you must retreat in about two weeks when most of the eggs have probably hatched. Fleas can live for up to a year in the egg stage. They will only hatch when disturbed. So when vacuuming, make sure you get every inch of carpet you can get. Especially that spare room that you keep the door shut to. They’re just laying in your carpet waiting to hatch. What hatches them? Any disturbance to the carpet such as you or your pet walking on it. You can do your own treatment in the house, I only use the exterminator for outside. Go to a pesticide store and simply ask the clerk what’s best. And this is the cheapest and best advice you’ll ever get: Put a moth ball in your vacuum bag (or whatever it’s called when you have a bagless) It will kill all the fleas and flea eggs that you have suctioned up. Good luck to ya.

  2. u need to get the cat flea meds from the vet, frontline or some other med, collars dont work.also put a pie pan filled with dish soap(lots) and water put a light next to it and leave it on at night,no other lights.the fleas will jump toward the heat sorce fall in the h2o and die,it wont cure all but it’s a start

  3. Someone once told me that a flea can live for six months without eating!! As soon as they get some protein (blood) they begin to reproduce! Just what you wanted to hear. I haven’t had them that bad, but I use to let them get on my dog and then I would bathe her (small poodle) and I would kill them that way. I would have to do it every day for a while, but it helped. My sister has had cats for years and she said to get any flea product, but it must have "precore" in it to work. You have to be able to kill the eggs too. I would call the landlord and have them take care of the problem, or at the very least, send them the bill of getting rid of them. Good luck!
