Do you need to replace it more often than a bag on a bagged vacuum?

I’ve got a Dyson. The documentation says to clean the filter every six months. In two years, I’ve never actually replaced it.
If your vacuum has a cleanable filter, I’d say keep cleaning it until it starts to fall apart or won’t come clean anymore. If it’s not a cleanable filter, then I’d replace it every six months or so, but if you notice the vacuum isn’t picking up stuff like it should, it may be because the filter is clogged and it needs to be replaced. That can vary from vacuum to vacuum and also depending on how much dirt the vacuum has to pick up.
depends on how often you vacuum.Mine is a bagless model and I take the filters out about once a month and wash them in hot water(there the sponge type)then let them dry completely and reattach them.
