My vacuum decided to stop working today and I am looking for some advice or whether I should take it to be repaired or just buy a new one..I wish I could be specific on what the problem is, possibly electrical as it will no longer turn on. This is Eureka brand bagless vacuum, approximately 4 1/2 years old. I am leaning towards buying a new one as I am sure even minor repairs would cost at least half the value of the vacuum.
I assume you’ve done the obvious:
– plugging into a different outlet
– jiggling the cord while switch is on, close to the plug, and also, nearest where the wire enters the vacuum cleaner body.
If you’ve done these, and still not the slightest of life >>Replace IT.
No sense in spending $$ for a 4 1/2 yr old cleaner when you can get a new one for just slightly more.
If it has a lot of plastic parts you will find out trying to fix it is repeative because one part will break then another…ok, check the belt for replacement..the cord…etc…Call up a vacuum repair place and ask them about the repair if this is a common repair and could you fix it yourself…you may only need a new cord.
get a new one they dont typically cost that much so just pay for a new one not repair which may cost the same or more..besides i had mine repaired it was almost brand new spent 30 dollars for it to only break again a short time later
first, try plugging it into another room to see if the motor will run there, if not, then a new one would probably be the best bet. i would check it thoroughly before tossing it, but i know what to look for, and how to do some repairs, but just enough to keep me out of trouble. i can’t be more helpful. sorry.
If you are looking at purchasing a vacuum your best buy is a Aerus (formly electrolux). They are not cheap and are built to last.It comes on some models 25 year warranty on the motor and a 7 year warranty on the parts. These by far the best vacuum on the market.Sears Kenmore, eureka,t dirt devil these throwaways average about 2 to 399 .they last average about 4 years. When you way out the cost over time the Aerus is the way to go..stay away from kirby, tristar, filter queen, rainbow these are high end vacuums and are not worth the 3000 they will try and sell to you.You have a problem you cannot get warranty work with them.On the Aerus there is a 1 800 number to call for service .
I’d buy a new one. I’ve never had good luck repairing and old one. It ususally breaks soon after the repair.
Some shops will give a free estimate. One problem that I have had is that parts are no longer available or are available only in a large assembly.
If it is something as simple as the switch or the cord, it is worth fixing. Those are common problems, especially the cord. If it is the motor, it probably is not worth it.
Usually the motors don’t go out instantly, but die slowly. The switch and the cord are often intermittent for a while then go out instantly.
