I have a bagless GE upright. Ive had it for over 5 yrs and I’m not sure when I should replace the belt. It seems to be working fine, but I want to keep up with routine maintenance. Thanks!

You should replace the belt on your vacuum every 6 months to a year. This rule does not apply if your vacuum has a geared belt, or is a not a stretching belt (like Eureka 4870).
Rubber belts stretch from the tension that is put on them. Even if the vacuum never is used, it still needs a new belt after a year. What normally happens is the user lifts the front and see that the brush is spinning. As soon as you put it back on the carpet it will stop.
If you haven’t replaced your belt for 5 years, you haven’t been vacuuming for about 4 years.
Get a spare or two and replace it when it breaks. that’s about all the maintenance the belts need
