I think it was because I didn’t let the filters dry completely so I washed them again and dried them for hours in front of a space heater. I also washed the hose up with soap and hot water. So after they completely dried, I put them back in the vacuum but it stills smells! What could be the problem? It smells like rotten socks it doesn’t smell like anything burning. And it’s a bagless powerforce vacuum from Bissell. I had it for about 2-3 years. And if your wondering, no filters melted while it was in front of the space heater.
Yes it is quite interesting…
I DO NOT HAVE ANY CARPET
Yeah I was thinking it may be mildew. Thanks JeanBug I’ll wash those filters in baking soda or vinegar.
I think you are smelling mildew. I have an old Rainbow vac, and if the filters aren’t dried properly between uses, it can stink something awful.
Try washing the filters again in baking soda or vinegar, then let dry in the sunshine for the day. You may have to wash them a few times before all the stink gets out.
uhm maybe you walk on your floor with dirty socks,
then vacuum that same floor?
It probably just really needs to be replaced. If washing it doesn’t get the stench out, I’d buy a new vacuum. Interesting problem you have here.
Put a good amount of Bicarbonate of Soda on your carpets….then vacuum it all up….Bicarbonate of Soda kills all odours…empty the Machine straight away…if you smell a slight odour then repeat….but that will get rid of it…..you get Bicarbonate of Soda from hardware shops or the baking section of big shops…..if you fo to the baking section you will need to buy a few canisters of it….those ones are small. But it is really cheap…a few pence.
