I like the new bagless machine simply because I no longer have to buy a bag. The good ones, (I have a Dyson), are very clean and do not blow dust around like some of the bargain units. I also like the fact that you can just look at the container and see if it needs to be emptied instead of the bag where you either need to guess or give it a squeeze to see how full it is. No more baggies for me, ever again.
I have heard that bag vacuums are the best. The bagless vacuum can accumulate bacteria in the canister and is very messy when you empty it, throwing more dust and germs in the air. The bags are better because you just throw the bag away. Hope this was helpful.
I’ve had both, that’s how long I’ve been around. any way I like bag less because the bag kind of fill s up to fast and that’s just another expense. And I like looking at the dirt I’m vacuuming up.
I used to think that bags were better – no messy cups to empty, etc. But, I still had problems with the dust & dirt spilling out whenever I went to change the bag – and after having a couple of bags split on the way to the trash, I decided a change was in order!
Then I got a bagless, and I will likely never go back! It is true that the dust and dirt can fly around a bit when you empty the dirt cup, but I have learned how to carefully remove the dirt cup, and by carefully emptying it, I tend to have little or no problems with dust fogging up. I always wash out the cup when I am done vacuuming for the day, and I always keep a new set of filters on hand so that the old ones don’t get clogged and cause a problem.
It is a change, if you are used to bag vacs, then (like any other change) it will take a bit to get used to. See if you can borrow a model similar to the one you want to buy from a friend or family member for a couple of days. That may help your decision a lot!
I say either one. The both have advantages and disadvantages.
Bag Vacuum
1) They are safer and cannot spill while, cleaning, vacuuming, etc.
2) They are a hassle to clean and have to be changed constantly
Bag-less Vacuum
1) They won’t fail you when it comes to cleaning and they are also easier to empty and don’t ever have to be changed
2) If you vacuum up a food, or something of that matter it will rot inside of the vacuum causing bacteria and fungus build-up. This will damage the vacuum.

I really believe it is a personal decision.

Good Luck!
