This review is from: Dirt Devil Easy Lite Cyclonic Quick Vac (Kitchen)

From an industrial designer’s standpoint, it’s a pretty decent vacuum for the money. Let’s be honest here – this is a cheap vac, I got mine from Target for $39 and I don’t expect it to be as quiet, powerful, or well built as say a Dyson. I did expect this to be almost as light as my little eureka stick vac for floors and be almost as powerful as my big Bissel full sized vac on carpet and with attachments for dusting, so with one appliance I can clean my new multi-story house with carpeted stairs more easily. Well it works great as an all purpose vac.

Other reviewers have pointed out some other flaws, which I do agree with, but it’s understandable, given it’s size/price range. It has the basic features and looks of a full sized cyclonic vacuum, only shrunken down to just a bit bigger/heavier than a stick vac. At 7 amps, it has pretty good suction when the filters are clean, but it’s small size means you have to clean them more often. That means cleaning the inner hepa filter and long hair/string jamming up the beater brush. I suspect that could be why others have said it shuts off randomly. Probably a overload fuse tripping. Mine is running fine and yes, it’s loud, but with some ear plugs for hearing protection, it’s doing it’s job pretty well. When dusting, it’s good to use one hand for maneuvering the hose with the other hand holding onto the vacuum to keep it from tipping over and to tilt it back slightly, so the brush roll (which can’t be turned off separately) won’t eat into the carpet/floor. Yes, the hose is a little short, but it’s a small light vac.

As far as actually cleaning ability, the “cyclonic” action is genuine, but I suspect it doesn’t have the centripetal force of a dyson to hurl fine fuzzy pet hair to the side walls and out of the air stream. Therefore hair and fuzz tend to get sucked into the intake tube in the center of the dirt cup. It’s actually not as bad as other cheap cyclonic vacs (Bissel), but it works best on dense particulate type debris. The small dirt cup does fill up fast and pet hair has to be fished out with your fingers. The very strong exhaust in front does tend to sweep dirt/dust bunnies away as you move forward. The exhaust air stream is kinda aimed upward, but tends to bounce off nearby walls and furniture.

Would I buy this again? Yeah, probably. For a few extra bucks, I would have liked a brush roll that can be deactivated (how much would a separate motor switch or a mechanical clutch cost?), a better exhaust diffuser design, and more sound insulation, but it’s been a pretty good all purpose vac so far…
