Do you prefer using a vacuum with a bag or a bagless vacuum?

I grew up with a bagged vacuum, so I’m used to that. But now I’m registering for wedding gifts, and am wondering which is actually better… what do most people prefer? Which is easier (and more sanitary) to empty the dirt out of? Also, my fiance has allergies… do vacuums with HEPA filters work fine for that, or does it need to be a fancier one made for allergens?

Thanks!

  1. Having used both kinds, and really paid attention to friends’ and relatives’ vacs, I’d say get a bagged with a HEPA filter. Dumping the cannister on a bagless leaves a cloud of dust, and can accidentally be dropped and cracked, resulting in compromised suction. And if you don’t clean the cannister often, the dust coating looks gross to anyone who looks at it.

  2. Bagless.. less waste, but you need to clean the filters often for optimal suction.

I hear HEPA filters work great. Try looking for a washable/reusable one to cut down costs.

  3. I’ve used both and I prefer a Vacuum cleaner with a bag {mine also has a hepa filter}, its more sanitary and it doesn’t blow dirt back out onto the air which I found out many bag-less vacuum’s do.

You can always go to a store that only sells Vacuums to try them out before you buy as so you can see for yourself as how they work and check out the ones just made for people with pet hair allergy’s.

  4. i had a bag-less before, it was great but disposing the collected dirt was a mess.

so now i use the Oreck, its bags are sealed and disposable, light weight and after 3 yrs, it hasn’t lost its power and you don’t see dust flying around when you vacuum unlike the bag-less type.

you might want to check Dyson vacuums for the bag-less once but i haven’t tried those, if it works for you, let me know 😉

  5. i used baggged FOREVER.. Recently got a bagless one.. I will never ever go back to the bagged one… plus if you accidently sucked up something very easy to get out… GOOD LUCK TO YOU

  6. Actually I own both kinds and use both kinds. Since it is for a wedding put both on the list. If you ever live in a 2 storey house or town house you will have one for each floor. Bagless really are messy when you have to find a garbage can, flip the little switch and dispose of all the dirt. Invariably a good portion of the dust lands on the kitchen floor and you have to give the canister a few good wacks…..then you have to vacuum all that dirt up again……

  7. I have a bagless, but I grew up with my mom having a bagged vaccum. I myself would prefer to have a bagged vaccum. I have bad allergies and just dumping the canister sends me to allergy hell and its messy. I would much rather just grab the bag and throw it away than dump it into a trash sack and have dust fly back up into my face.

I would say it would depend on how bad his allergies are. If they are severe you should probably check into a vaccum with an allergen filter. Oreck vaccums are supposed to be great for that. Good luck and congrats on your upcoming wedding!

  8. I’ve owned a vacuum cleaner store for 15yrs.and have studied vacuum tech. for about 25yrs.,when a new wave of vac tech. comes out I have to go purchase it to see if it is any better than what we have, that’s my job.So to answer your question,if you get a bagless don’t buy anything but a dyson, they are the only one that work. All the other bagless models you have to buy filters for them because they clog. With the dyson you don’t have to buy filters, bags,or belts, and include a 5yr.warranty.I got my dyson 12yrs. ago,I still have it ,I’ve only had to put new brushroller brushes at $29.00,in 12 yrs.,so buy a cyson they work.Hope this helps.
