I have a bagless vacuum and I have to say it works like crap. Every time I turn it on, it starts to smell like burning rubber, and I can also feel the dirt particles shooting back out at my feet. It makes a bigger mess more than it cleans. I was wondering if there is any way to fix this, or if any one else has had the same problem. It’s a Bissell. Don’t tell me to buy a new one, because I cant. I just wanna know how to fix this problem if it is fixable.

Check the manual, it sounds like a belt has come loose is is being chewed up. This can happen if the sweeper caught a throw rug, shoe lace or clothing – something not fastened to the floor.
Check the brush roller to see if something is caught.
Make sure the dirt cup is set in the machine correctly and is fastened.
Remove it and put it back to be sure it seals.
