Help with smelly bagless vacuum!?

7

My boyfriend just moved in and his vacuum stinks! He had a dog and the vacuum is making my whole house stink like dirty dog. It is a bagless vacuum. Any suggestions?

  1. The filter needs changing for sure. One thing that may help on top of changing the filter is to put essential oil on a few cotton balls and suck that up when you start to vac.

  2. If the dirt collection container is removeable, take it out and clean it with a diluted bleach solution. Reassemble when dry.

  3. Take a whole box of arm&hammer baking soda and pour it out on the floor. Then vac it up and leave the soda in the vac till next time you use it and then clean it out. That should remove the stench from the vac itself.

  4. Wash out the container that holds the dirt/dust and the brushes on the bottom.
Take out the filter. Smack all the dust out of it. You can try washing it or replacing it. It’s not expensive.

  5. Change the filter. Take out the canister, if removable, and wash it out with something pleasant smelling. I use Pine Sol. If the hoses are removeable, do the same. Let all parts dry thoroughly before replacing. If you are uncomfortable with taking apart the vacuum, you can have the vacuum cleaned at a vacuum repair place. The cost is around $35.00
