This vacuum walks circles around my 10-year-old Hoover Windtunnel bagged vacuum. If you have kids and pets, you vacuum daily like I do. My home is small and so is my budget, so this affordable model covers all the bases for me. Emptying the collection bin is a bit messy, but it is worth it to me to never have to purchase bags again. I empty it into a closed grocery bag, and I’m sure I’ll get better at this over time. With a lot of cat hair to pick up that has been left behind by my old vacuum, I have had to brush off the filter several times, again, not a big deal to me. The hose is sturdy and long, and the cord rewind feature is a plus. I like the fact that the beater does not run when the vacuum is in the upright position, and has an on-off switch for hard floors. It does make a squeaking noise when stopping and starting, which troubles me a bit. I only gave this product 4 stars for now, but will update after owning for a few more months.

I’m posting this review after 2 solid weeks of use every day on a 2300 sqft home. I didn’t intend to use it that much that quick, but I really enjoy tools that work and this one definitely does. I have 2 large dogs and had a Eureka on it’s last leg – the home would smell like wet dog every time we would vacuum even though it had a brand new bag and HEPA filter installed. I read some reviews on a different model by Hoover, went to the big box store, but they didn’t have the model I had done so much research on. I took a shot in the dark and brought this one home with no research just because I liked the idea of the retractable cord. THIS VACUUM IS FANTASTIC. I had previously been researching the Dysons as well and had even used a few before – this vacuum performs every bit as good if not better for way less money. I can’t believe how much dog hair, dirt, and dust it sucked up out of the carpet and off the tile, and now the house smells clean and fresh – no more dog smell! The on-board pet brush is fantastic too. I unintentionally gave it a durability test when I accidentally tipped it over just after unpacking it and cringed as the handle slammed into the tile floor – this is how my friend broke his Dyson – Hoover took it like a champ. No damage.

Regarding other reviews I saw one that indicated the brush won’t work after 3 uses – mine still does after over a dozen HEAVY uses.

I read another that complained about the belt – the belt on mine says Good-Year and it hasn’t broken, frayed, or slowed down at all.

One review called it a boat anchor and said it’s impossible to carry – IT’S 23 POUNDS YOU WEENIE, and it’s on WHEELS. That’s about what a typical 1 to 2 yr old child weighs. In all fairness, if you have a 2 story and are elderly and/or handicapped in some way then perhaps this vacuum may weigh a bit too much for you. I haven’t had to lift it since I took it out of the box, so…

Some are commenting that it’s messy to empty – there are two ways to empty it: there is a door that swings open at the bottom and drops the dirt out, or you can unlock the top by twisting it, remove the cone, and gently dump the contents into the trash without creating a could of dust… that also keeps the seal on the bottom of the trap door from getting dirty. The retractable cord has been awesome. What you probably wouldn’t guess unless I told you or you read the name is that I’m a man and don’t typically like to vacuum. My girlfriend is ecstatic that I enjoy vacuuming the house, and has even gone so far as to take pictures of me doing it to prove it. When I wanted a great drill that would last I bought a DeWalt – still have it and love to use it. When I wanted a truck I bought an F-150 – over 200K miles and still rolling. Now I lucked out and have a vacuum that has really improved the cleanliness of the house.

If I ever have a problem then I will by all means update this review, but so far I’m impressed.
