I recently purchased some Shaw plush carpet.?

After two weeks I am filling up my bagless vacuum cleaner compartment with carpet fibers. It’s not the loop that is coming out it’s fiber. You can also take the toe of a rubber soled shoe and scrape it across the carpet and get the same results. Is this normal for this carpet? The store owner talked me into this and though it looks great and feels good to walk on what’s it going to look like in a year?

  1. Hi
There are two ways to make carpet fibres.

The first way, which it sounds like the way yours, is made. When they make the fibre yarn for this carpet they take small pieces of yarn and spin them into a thread. At this point they make the carpet fibre from the thread. This is why you are having the fluff problem with this carpet, which is normal for this type because of the small fibre yarns.
This does not affect the carpet in any way.

The second type of carpet made, they use a continuous fibre yarn, which does not use short pieces of yarn when thy make the thread. This one will no make as much fluff.

  2. To an extent its normal. As long as the seller is aware of your concern and is honest you have a claim against them and the carpet maker Shaw. They are a good company!

  3. I have no clue what brand the carpet i had installed a year ago, is, but it "shed" quite a bit during the first few days….these were definetly carpet fibers…maybe they were left behind from all the cutting the installers did…im not sure, but they were gone after a few vacuumings, and the carpet is holding up well
