Is carpet freshener safe?

to use while pregnant? I am 9 weeks pregnant with my second baby and I am curious to know if using carpet freshener is safe to use. You know the kind you sprinkle on the carpet and then vacuum it up. I also have a bagless vacuum so you know some dust sprays out when I vacuum it.

  1. I’ve used the carpet freshener during pregnancy. Just not very often and I try not to breathe in the smell.

I don’t think any chemical freshener is healthy for you, pregnant or not. Just try to limit your exposure.

  2. Yes. Just use with caution,as you would even if you were not expecting. You would use in an open, well ventilated room, and of course not spray near your face or inhale the fumes. And, of course never mix any type of chemicals together.

You know, they also say Coke causes cancer… My doctor never said to avoid any type of chemical cleaners. Ever. So,don’t let ‘some people’ AHEM… who are paranoid beyond reason scare you… I have used all types of cleaners while pregnant. Because let’s face it. You can’t stop cleaning just because you’re pregnant. My 12 month old daughter is fine. And so is my baby boy who is due in two weeks.

  3. No. They’re not safe for anyone, pregnant or not. They typically contain four basic ingredients: formaldehyde, petroleum distillates, p-dichlorobenzene and propellants. These chemicals are thought to cause cancer and brain damage.

Oh, and they also damage your carpet.
