New vacuum – that much dirt?

5

My Eureka vacuum was about 12 years old when it broke yesterday. I had just done the living room, which has a Berber-style carpet.
So I got a new vacuum (a Bissell CleanView Helix Bagless) and just because I happened to be in the living room, I tried it out. WOW– the canister was almost half full!

It’s kind of gross to think I had been vacuuming and yet leaving behind mass quantities of dirt.
Was my old vacuum THAT ineffective???

  1. Yes, it’s something. Now you can feel accomplished when you vacuum because now you can see what you are picking up. I have recently purchased a new vacuum too and it’s awesome.

  2. After that many years, the dirt and lint get trapped, leaving the sucking power not to suck that much. lol
Really you should replace a vacuum a little more than every 12 years lol

  3. its all good. just use the better vacuum now. If I were you I wouldnt worry so much. Just start vacuuming and maybe rent a shampooer for your carpet since the holidays are fast approaching. you cant change the past.

Riccar makes an excellent vacuum b ut are quite pricey

  4. Yup! I suffered the same feelings when I went from a Hoover Wind-Tunnel to a Bissell. I wasn’t sure if I should be amazed or grossed out.

I’ve never managed to keep one more than about 5-6 years so you more than got your use out of it.
