Vacuum leaves smell?

2

We have (had) a nice bagless vacuum, but the other day as I was vacuuming out the car, it just died and stopped working. My husband pulled out the filter and washed it out, the tank was already emptied. A few days later I tried the vacuum again. It turned on but it didn’t suck anything up and now it leaves a horrible smell that is hard to get rid of.
Has this happened to anyone? Do you know what is causing this? I don’t want to buy a new vacuum if I can just replace the belt or filter.
Thanks in advance!

  1. You probably overheated it and now you’re smelling that nice burning smell. Check the beater bar and make sure it is clear. Take it off, remove any debris, hair, etc. Also replace any belts. The smell may be coming from overheating belts that are slipping. Make sure the hoses are completely clear. You can try sucking up some scented carpet deodorizer to see if that helps eliminate it. If all else fails, take it in for service and see what they recommend…

  2. More than likely you have a partial clog in the vacuum some where, on my bagless vac this usually occurs at the top above where the container sets that you empty, mine is in the upper right had side. Bagless vacs are will known for clogs! If it is a whirlwind type vac check above where the your container that catches the dirt is, on mine there is just enough room to get your hand up there, I have a clothes hanger that I use to unclogg it with..hope this helps! Also take the brush roller out and see if there is a clog where the roller kicks the gunk up into the container.
    Good Luck
