  1. Bissell has one place that things get stuck in. Doesn’t matter what model you have; it’s the same place. And you have already cleared a clog and I’ll bet you didn’t get it all.

First unplug the sweeper. Lay the unit on it’s back on the floor. Pull out the little tray below the dirt cup that holds the sponge filter. Take it all the way out. Get a flashlight and look way back in the space you removed that tray from. I’ll bet there is something hung up back there. Either stick your fingers in there (only works if you have little long hands) or a pair of needle nose pliers and pull out all debris stuck back there. Tissues and the type of wrappers that come on microwave popcorn are two of the materials that get stuck back there.

Clean out the filter while you have it out, replace, and try the unit. That should take care of your issue. Be more careful what you suck up in the machine in the future and you won’t have clogs. Empty the dirt cup when it’s 1/2 full for best performance.

  2. Empty it and see if it has a filter on the exhaust end. If this is clogged it will keep it from working right.
Shake it out, or rinse it….but dry it really well, you don’t want to ruin the vac by getting moisture to the motor

  3. Have you checked your belt? It may have slid out of place. Also, if you have a HEPA filter that is clogged, then the vacuum cannot put the air back out efficiently therefore can not take in as much.

  4. I vote for the belt being broken. These are rubber and expand then break. None of them last very long at all. If there was a burning order prior to or is now, that pretty much cinches it. Every residential vac has a beater bar which is driven by the belt, if the vac runs but the beater bar on the bottom is not turning, this removes any doubt.
The beater bar rotates from the motor via the belt. This bar has brushes on it which picks up the dirt & sends it into the canister.
You can replace the belt very, very easily. Go to someplace like a vac repair center, hardware store or even Sears, find the belt which fits your model.
Remove the screws from the bottom skid plate. Remove the beater bar along with the broken belt. Insert the new belt over the metal stub (very shiny round shaft approx 1" long). Replace the beater bar with the belt over the end with the indented area. This is where the belt rides. Remember, the belt is new and will have to be streched so don’t think you’ve gotten the wrong one. These run via tension.
Replace the skid plate, turn the vac on. If the beater bar is rotating, you”ve done a great job & saved yourself about $45.

  5. Your BISSELL should have a filter. The filter might be filthy or dirty. You might have to clean it with some water and then let dry before placing it back or you might have to replace it. . Look at your manual or go to there web site… another problem might be that your belt might be worn out… You might have to phyiscally look underneath the vacuum to see if the bristles are moving.. Please be careful not to touch them.. If you are handy with a phillip screw driver, you can open the vacuum cleaner and replace the belt yourself… Remember to unplug the vacuum when doing so….Good luck…..
