Can you wash the canister of a bagless vacuum?

I would like to wash the ‘bagless part’ of my vacuum. Is it ok to do that? Also, there’s a filter in there…how do I clean it? Can I get it wet and wait till it dries to use it?

Thanks so much 🙂

  1. I agree with all the answers so far… I work in a vacuum repair/sales store and the answer is YES you can wash the bagless canister (or tank) as others have stated you MUST make sure it is dry. Also, almost all filters can be washed and again they must be very VERY dry before using. First, a wet filter will not work well as the ‘pores’ are swollen closed. Secondly, and far worse, the moisture will get in the motor causing it to fail. I recommend customers to only wash the filter 2-3 times max since they never get completely clean and by the 3rd washing are more clogged than clean. This decreases the suction & puts stress on the motor. Hope this helps.

  2. It depends on the vacuum. Check the owner’s manual. If you don’t have the owner’s manual, they can usually be found online by checking the website of the company who manufactured the vacuum. As far as cleaning the filter, I had a vacuum, Eureka Boss, that had a disposable filter. To buy a new filter seemed overly expensive considering the price of the vacuum so I washed the filter and the cannister and let them air dry. It worked great. I suspect the filter will only take so many washings, but so far I’ve washed it three times and its still going strong.

  3. If it’s all plastic, i’m sure you can rinse it out, but you need to make sure it is absolutly dry before putting it back.
i don’t know about the filter, i usually just bang that against somethin. but the manufacturer website, you can probably find that through google, might help with the whole situation.
