DID I BREAK MY VACUUM?

4

I accidentally caught a shirt that was lying on the floor. I turned it off immediately, removed the shirt and tried to continue to vacuum. I notice its not picking anything up. I looked underneath… the roller isnt rolling. This is a brand new vacuum, Bissell Powerforce Bagless. Catching the shirt is was no different than what we’ve all done from time to time.

Is there something I can do to get the roller to move again, thanks

  1. You did not break it, but you may have either dislodged or broken the the drive belt for your ‘beater brush’ which you can easily check if you try to turn the brush by hand.
You should feel some slight resistance to movement.
If it turns freely, you need to follow the procedures to replace the belt for your vacuum.
I have caught many things in a vacuum cleaner before, but I have not ever caught a shirt!
That seems to be one ‘heluva’ catch!
    Good luck.

  2. Normally that just means you broke the belt. It is possible it came off the spindle though. Remove the bottom of the vacuum cleaner, the shroud around the beater brush and have a look. Belts are available wherever in grocery stores, Target, Walmart, etc. Just have you model number with you.
