aniumus need help to clarify doubt about : what kind of vacuum cleaner should I get?
I am looking to get a vacuum cleaner, preferably baggless, and preferably under 200. I have hard wood floors, one area rug, a few fully carpeted areas, and some couches I would like to keep clean with it. Which brand and type of vacuum would you recommend?

I have the Eureka Boss SmartVac and I highly recommend it. While it is not bagless, it is about $ 150 at Walmart. It will do all the surfaces that you mentioned. There’s a switch to turn the beater bar off, so you can do your hardwood floors without scratching them. The suction from the accessory hose is great. I have used a lot of vacuums and this one works the best. Consumer Reports rated it a Best Buy and rated it higher than Dyson. Good luck!

I know you are not going to like this one but it worth a shot as every body has different minds and ideas.
We use a shop vac from home depot or Lowes. We got the big Ridged brand http://www.ridgid.com/Tools/Wet-Dry-Vacs/index.htm. This thing is cheap and last for ever. Here is why we use it.
You can do hard wood
You can do carpet.
You can do carpet washing.
You can do your furniture.
You can do your car.
You can do your garage.
You can do under your refrigerator.
You can blow the leaves off your lawn.
You can blow the dust out of your electronics.
You can blow out your sliding door tracks.
You can unplug drains.
You can fill rafts and kids toys.
You can clean the fish tank.
You can suck of up broken glass
You can suck or blow anything you want
Here is one you going to think is strange. But you can wash your refrigerator and freezer and your chest freezer inside with a bucket, sponge, soap and warm water and then you suck out the dirty water. We do this once a year just to make sure it stays new looking inside and out. It tasks longer to remove and put back the food then it does to clean it. The vacuum sucks so hard it is dry enough to wipe down completely dry with a one or two paper towels.

We just blow out the filter out side or you can just buy a new one when it is dirty but I just wait for a good windy day and just blow it out.
You add on attachments, filters and hoses. We put on a 30 foot long pool cleaning house and leave the vacuum in the hallway and we can do all 3 bed rooms and the bathrooms on one end of the house and then do the other end of the house if we move the vacuum to the entry way. If you have stairs it would be great for the steps but then you will have to take it upstairs and it is kind of big for that. We don’t have stairs.
It is very easy to clean and you can line the tank with a trash bag and when you feel it is full just tie up the bag and toss it. I put a rock in the bottom to hold the bag on the bottom of the can but even when I forgot the rock the bag did not effect the air flow of the machine,

So I hoped I spread my excitement of doing something a different way.
I got a Bissell Healthy Home about a month ago and I’m very pleased with it. We have a house full of pets (4 cats and 3 dogs) and it is doing a wonderful job with the pet hair!
It’s got a sealed HEPA filter and filters all kinds of nasties out of the air as it cleans. My middle son has some cat allergies and the last few times he has been here to visit, he’s not sneezed at all.
It’s solidly built, the on board tools are handy and well designed and bag less. If you look around you may be able to find it for $ 200; I got mine at Lowe’s for that. It’s normally around $ 250. Comes with a 5 year warranty and a lifetime belt too.
