    It’s sucks and that’s a good thing!, December 4, 2011

    CONSTRUCTION:
What struck me first when unboxing and assembling this vacuum cleaner, was its quality. It is solid and well made. There was minor assembly needed and what was needed illustrated the solid and well-thought-out construction of this vacuum cleaner. One thing I really liked was the solid plastic cup that you emptied. So many small vacuums do this poorly. Often you get a cloth type bag that you have to scrape pet hair and dust from. This refuse cup was more typical of a higher end vacuum. All you had to do was pour it out.

    POWER
After charging this and running this vacuum for the first time, its power was stunning for a cordless model. I have had several cordless vacuums, none with this suction and pep. I’ve used this vacuum for 15-30 minutes and not once did it flag in power. I’ve yet to use it for the full 45 minutes duration it says it’s good for. I don’t know if I’m rated for that duration…

    USAGE
I looked at the bottom as I was curious as to how the pointed end picked up stuff and there is a channel in the point that has suction. There is a rolling brush in a typical orientation between the wheels. so the point, does not brush up any dirt, just sucks it up. The brush is relatively small, so I’m wondering how well it will fair for long term use in a house with 4 cats and my shoulder length hair. I have posted a picture of this suction channel. You can see the small brush in this area as well. I find they have a graphic molded into the bottom, to tell you to use scissors to cut any hair or string that gets stuck into the brush. Use of the flat end relative to the little wheels is creative. I found I often I would put the flat end along the wall and slide the unit at an angle to the wheels. I don’t know if this will cause them to wear out prematurely or not. Would seem that using a roller ball would be more helpful for this usage, but they may have avoided it as dirt could mess it up. I will repost with updates on this as I use it more and more over time.
There are two power settings, carpet and bare floors. This is one of the few vacuums, I have run into that you even use the bare floor settings on. This turns the power down on the suction and the speed of the little brush. If you don’t it will scatter dirt on your bare floors. Rare that a small vacuum has enough power to do this.

    CHARGING
Unless you have owned a cordless vacuum before you have not run into one of it’s peculiar issues. That would be Storage. Normally you can store a vacuum in a closet out of sight, but unless you have an electrical outlet in your closet, you will find a cordless vacuum always ends up outside your closet in a corner or spare room if you have it, so it can remain plugged in. Otherwise you would have a useless vacuum.

    SUMMARY
This is a great vacuum. Price point reflects the quality of the product.

    PROS:
    *Solid construction
*Dust cup is high quality and easy to use
    *Corner cleaning is great
    *Lots of power
    *Long duration of usage
*Cordless makes it very easy to spot clean from room to room
    *Relatively light

    CONS:
*Must store near an outlet (true of any cordless)
*Small brush may be an issue over time with hair (this is an issue with many vacuums)

Vine Customer Review of Free Product (What’s this?)
I am an avid consumer of stick vacuums. At best most last 3 years in my household, worst – a matter of months. The poor things are subjected to all manner of abuse by my 4 kids and are run off their wheels by me. Earlier this year I decided to invest in a more expensive instrument and picked up Hoover LINX Cordless Stick Vacuum. Have to say, I love everything about that stick except for the battery life, which is about 15 minutes, yes, 15 minutes!

When I was offered the opportunity to review this stick vacuum I was quite excited. Finally I could do a head to head comparison of two of Amazon’s more popular cordless sticks! (Yes, my life is just that pathetic.) So here are my results:

    Hardwood Floor sprinkled with flour:

Hoover Linx – The linx was the clear winner here, it sucked up every bit of the flour in one pass.

Rowenta – The Rowenta left behind clumps even after a pass over and back.

    Carpet dusted with flour:

Hoover Linx – The Linx left a fine dusting of flour after going over and back.

Rowenta – The Rowenta performed slightly better, some flour was still left behind but less than that left by the Linx.

    Hardwood Floor with BB’s:

Hoover Linx – Once again, the clear winner – both BB’s were sucked up and neither one came back out.

Rowenta – One BB was sucked up and the other one just pushed around by the tip of the machine.

    Carpet with BB’s:

Hoover Linx – This one was a tie. Both machines sucked up one BB and pushed the other about.

    Rowenta – See above.

Corner with leaf, flour and crumbs:

Hoover Linx – Both machines performed admirably, sucking up all the matter in one pass.

Rowenta – See above and, I was surprised because I assumed the Rowenta’s pointed tip would give it an advantage.

    Overall Look:

Hoover Linx – It looks fine, nothing out of the ordinary here.

Rowenta – This machine looks so cool that I had to restrain my boys from running it straight out of the box. Of course, they are able to restrain themselves now! On the downside, the crazy thing has to be set “just so” or it will crash over on the floor.

    Weight:

Hoover Linx -No noticeable difference, both are lightweight enough for ordinary household use. (About 7 pounds each.)

    Rowenta – See above.

    Height:

Hoover Linx – A good height for most people (43.5 inches). However, if you are on the taller side, the Rowenta’s extra height could be a better fit for you.

Rowenta – This one is a long tall sally (47 inches) but will work if you are on the shorter side too because of the looped handle.

    Ease of cleaning:

Hoover Linx – Both sticks are easy to clean but I give the Linx a slight edge for the reasons stated below.

Rowenta – The bagless tub on this stick has to be pushed down to be removed and emptied. There are two grips on either side of the tub and they are pretty widely spaced, so to do it one handed is literally a real stretch.

    Stairs:

Get out your good old heavy-duty nozzle vacuum, neither one of these are going to get the crud out of carpeted stairs!

    Battery Life:

Hoover Linx – Ridiculously short, 15 minutes run time and then done. The Achilles heel of this stick.

Rowenta – Wowza! I used the stick on both hardwoods and carpet and it ran down after 41 minutes of solid use. A real selling point for those with more area to cover.

    Over all rating:

Hoover Linx – 4.5 stars. A great little machine with too small a charge.

Rowenta – 4 stars. A little more expensive and a little less impressive than the Linx but still a very good stick and well worth the price. If you have a larger area that needs daily cleaning, this might be your stick because of the battery life.

    Recommended.
