Trash Picked Dirt Devil Vibe Bagless Vacuum Cleaner

12

Just picked this up the other day from my neighbors trash. Ran, but had no suction. I removed the hose assembly first. Assembly was clogged, but that was not the problem. The HEPA filter which is in the dirt cup was damp, and smelled laundry like. Somebody probably vacuumed up laundry water. I ran the vacuum without the HEPA, and the suction returned. If i sound kinda drowsy i have been recovering from a cold lately.

  1. If the Paper HEPA filter cartridge was washed with water and washing up liquid, rinse it out and it can be dried in a tumble/electric dryer – put it into a pillow case to let it dry. It will be as good as new. No point in wasting money ordering a new one when the old one can be cleaned out.

  2. BUt thats the point. Ive washed similar filters which were worse off, after a couple of hours in hot water with either washing liquid or washing powder you’ll find a difference. Never use a vacuum without its filter in place though, even if you have removed it. I understand of course the excitement of finding a vacuum in the trash but when its bagless its either clogged or something more dangerous such as dirt seeping into the motors – a fact that old Dysons suffer from.

  3. You should have kept it dude, those models are NOT bad, most likely you are right about the people who owned it before using it as a wet-vac (mistakenly). For those who use them right, like yourself they last for years- I have had mine since 2002!!

  4. Nice! Helpful tips! My moms vacuum cleaner has no suction, I might tell her this and convince her not to throw it away, she goes through vacuums fairly quickly since we’ve got dogs and they are one of the hairier breeds.

  5. Found the same deal in the trash myself.. only thing wrong, was it clogged up with that carpet fresh powder in the lower vacuum port.. Id never use that powder stuff with a HEPA type Vac.
