what am i doing wrong? i changed the belts on my vacuum and still

I have a Dirt Devil Featherlite bagless uprights. the belt had snapped so i purchased a new one and put it on and that snapped. I put them on per the instructions. however, it appears that the style I bought seemed too small. My vacuum says style 5 however, walmart only had 4/5, not 5. I cleaned the brushroll of hair and other stuff so that area was free and clear. has anyone else had these issues with the same belts? I just dont’ want to keep spending more $. I have already gone through 4 belts.
i think i have the right size belts. the instructions and vacuum indicate the size belt to use. I did try cleaning off the brushroll so i try oiling it and see if that works tomorrow. i still have one belt left.

  1. I don’t think it’s your belts or anything you are doing wrong …..my guess is {and it’s only a guess} that your beater bar { brush roller} is the problem, possibly ceasing up at times causing the belt to break. Try putting a little oil at both ends of the roller bearing/bushings and see if that helps.

  2. the wrong size belt will break every time. check your local yellow pages for "vacuum repair" to find the exact belt you need.

  3. It is common for the bearings in the brush to go bad. When that happens the belts break quickly and the vac is pretty much shot.
