vacuum question?

7

I have a Eureka Capture upright vacuum. When I vacuumed Today I noticed that no dirt was going into the dirt canister (it’s a bagless vacuum). It did seem to be sucking some dirt off the carpet but not as well as it normally does. I have checked for clogs, cleaned all filters and now I am out of ideas. The service center is closed today, and the question is not in the owners manual. Anyone know what the problem might be?

  1. even the bagless vacuums have more then one filter, mine has 3 different ones.
one above the dirt cup one unerneath and one on the side of the vacuum.
Often people clean only one of these and that is why they still have a problem.
some times thare is a plastic cage around the upper filter and it needs taken out and cleaned.
also often there is a plug in the hose where you can not see it.
If the hose can be easily removed then thread it over a broom stick and this will clear any obstruction.

  2. Turn the vacuum on and see if the roller is turning? be careful though when you look, if the roller is not turning, you probably have a busted belt. The vacuum is "sucking" but the roller is not turning. If the roller is turning, turn the vacuum off and see if the hose going from the roller to the chamber is clogged.

  3. If everything snapped in place. I know one time I did not have bagless compartment snapped on and I wondered where all the dirt might be going. Check to see if the brushes are going around also.

  4. Check the height setting (Carpet or Floor). Floor is closer and it picks more up. Check the hose suction. If that’s working, then you probably got a bad connection from the suction fan blower thing to the head.

  5. Check the power brushes and make sure that nothing is tangled (things like carpet fiber) in the drive train. It might have picked up some string or fiber and although the suction is still working the rotating brushes are not. Look into the area where the brushes turn, if they are not turning then something is either tangled in there preventing it, or a drive train belt is busted.

  6. check the filter… most canister vacs have a suction issue when their central filter is clogged. They should hae some sort of sensor that clicks to one side or spins like mad when it is clogged. Check eurekas website for a trouble shoot.
